2. General Information

Please review the following requirements before installing or riding the wheelset.

  • Technical Skills: Assembling and maintaining these wheels requires basic knowledge of bicycle components. If you are unsure about any procedure, please consult an authorized dealer.
  • Intended Use: The wheels must only be used as specified in this manual. Any unauthorized use may cause malfunctions or hazards and voids all product liability.
  • Weight & Compatibility: Never exceed the maximum system weight capacity. Ensure the wheels are fully compatible with all other components on your bicycle.
  • Genuine Parts Only: Use only original spare parts and accessories. Do not alter or modify the wheels in any way.
  • Maintenance Schedule: All servicing must follow the intervals specified in section 5, “Service & Care.”
  • Damage Inspection: Do not ride wheels or tires that show any signs of damage. If you suspect any issues, contact your dealer immediately.

DANGER — Carbon Spoke Safety: Improper maintenance, unauthorized repairs, or the use of incompatible spare parts can cause carbon spokes to snap. This may lead to sudden wheel failure, resulting in severe falls or critical injuries.

Professional Service Only: All maintenance and repairs must be performed exclusively by an authorized service center.

3. Safety

3.1 Worn Tubeless Tape

WARNING — Risk of accident due to worn tubeless tape. Worn or damaged tubeless ready tape can cause a sudden, catastrophic loss of tire pressure. This may lead to a loss of bicycle control, resulting in severe injuries or death.

  • Regular Inspection: Inspect the tubeless ready tape every three months for signs of wear, lifting, or damage (refer to section 5, “Service & Care”).
  • Damaged Components: Do not ride or use the wheels if any damage or suspected wear is detected. If you are unsure about their condition, consult your authorized dealer immediately.

3.2 Tire Failure & Compatibility

WARNING — Risk of injury from tire failure. Using an incompatible tire and rim combination, or inflating tires to an incorrect pressure, can result in sudden tire failure, loss of control, and severe injury.

  • Rim & Tire Compatibility: Tubeless Crochet (TC / hooked) rims are engineered exclusively for use with tubeless-compatible tires.
  • Intended Use: These wheels are optimized for ASTM Category 1 road riding, ensuring stable, consistent road contact and predictable handling.
  • Sealant Requirement: To ensure proper sealing, safety, and performance, all tubeless-ready setups require the use of a liquid tire sealant.
  • Maximum Pressure Limits: Where the maximum pressure rating of the rim differs from that of the tire, the lower of the two maximum pressure limits must always be observed.

Liability & Warranty Terms for Intended Use: Products must only be used within their designated category or lower. Any use outside this specified classification will immediately void all guarantees and warranties. In such cases, the manufacturer assumes no liability for any direct, indirect, or consequential damages, and the user bears sole responsibility for all resulting risks and consequences.

3.3 Hot Braking Components

WARNING — Danger of burns from hot braking components. Brake rotors and brake flanges can become extremely hot during use. To avoid severe burn injuries, allow these components to cool down completely before working on or handling the wheel.

3.4 Correct Components & Tools

CAUTION — Risk of wheel damage from incorrect components or tools. Using incompatible components or inappropriate tools can cause permanent structural or cosmetic damage to the wheel.

  • Tire Lever Restrictions: Do not use metal tire levers, as they can easily gouge or scratch the surface of the rim, tire, or inner tube. Also avoid tire levers equipped with spoke hooks or fixations.
  • Valve Specifications: Use only valves with the correct diameter and sufficient length for your rim profile. The factory-drilled valve hole must not be enlarged, drilled, or modified in any way.
  • Dimensional Compatibility: Ensure that the rim tape, inner tubes, and tires strictly conform to the exact dimensions and width specified for the rim.

3.5 Exposed Carbon Fibers

WARNING — Risk of injury from exposed carbon fibers. Damaged carbon rims or spokes can expose sharp, splintered carbon fibers. Contact with these fibers can cause severe cuts, skin punctures, or eye irritation.

  • Cease Use Immediately: Do not ride or use the product if it exhibits cracks, chips, or any other visible or tangible damage (refer to section 6.3, “Procedures Following a Fall or Mechanical Impact”).
  • Handling Precautions: Never touch damaged carbon areas with bare hands. Always wear heavy-duty protective gloves and safety goggles when handling damaged carbon components.
  • Professional Inspection: Damaged components must only be inspected, repaired, or replaced by a qualified bicycle technician.
  • Proper Disposal: Do not discard damaged carbon parts with regular household waste. They must be disposed of properly through appropriate recycling or hazardous waste channels.

4. Tire Assembly

4.1 Fitting Tubeless Tires

Recommended components for optimal tubeless performance. To ensure the flawless performance and airtight sealing of your tubeless system, we highly recommend using official tubeless ready tape, tubeless valves, and high-quality liquid tire sealant.

Valve Installation Note: For detailed instructions on mounting the tubeless valve, please refer to section 5.1, “Replacing tubeless ready tape / fitting tubeless valve.”

Note — potential damage to the rim from unsuitable sealant fluid. The rim bed must be inspected regularly for corrosion, and the rim must be taken out of service immediately if any visible damage is found. Vinty declines all product liability and warranty claims for corrosion clearly caused by the use of an unsuitable sealant fluid.

4.2 Fitting Tube-Type Tires

  1. Install the rim tape. Apply a compatible rim tape securely to the rim bed. Recommendation: Vinty Tubeless Ready Tape is highly recommended for this application.
  2. Mount the tire and inner tube. Assemble the inner tube and tire strictly following the tire manufacturer’s guidelines. Tip: Applying soapy water or a dedicated mounting fluid to the tire beads will ease installation.
  3. Inflate to set. Inflate the tire up to its maximum approved pressure rating to ensure proper seating.
  4. Verify tire seating. Inspect the tire fit around the entire circumference to ensure it sits evenly on the rim. Safety Note: If you suspect the tire is not seated correctly, have it inspected by a qualified bicycle professional.
  5. Adjust to operating pressure. If necessary, reduce or adjust the tire pressure to your desired operating pressure before riding.

4.3 Mounting Components

Install all drivetrain and braking components, such as the cassette or brake rotor, strictly following the respective manufacturer’s instructions.

6. Handling & Storage

6.1 Transport

Proper transportation helps avoid potential damage to your wheels. Always observe the following points:

  • Do not apply excessive pressure to carbon wheels, and avoid placing any objects on them.
  • Transport the wheels individually in their wheel bags.
  • Vehicle Transport Note: Cushion the rims before fitting lashing straps or ratchet systems, and keep them a safe distance from hot vehicle exhaust pipes.

6.2 Storage (longer than 1 week)

Proper, careful storage is essential to prolonging the lifespan of your wheels. Before storing, clean the wheels thoroughly and remove all salt residue, release the tire pressure, and drain any tubeless sealant fluid. Never hang carbon wheels directly from storage hooks.

6.3 Procedures Following a Fall or Mechanical Impact

Inspect your wheel’s spokes regularly, with immediate checks required following a crash or exposure to severe external stress. Pay specific attention to the following three conditions:

  1. Side Overload: The wheel has been subjected to lateral pressure, crushing, or heavy side-loading.
  2. Sharp Edge Impacts: Direct contact with sharp, solid obstacles such as curbs, potholes, or structural edges.
  3. Abnormal Operating Stress: Any exceptional impacts or mechanical forces that deviate from standard, normal riding conditions.

If a carbon spoke exhibits deep scratches, protruding or splintered fibers, impact bruising, or cracks, the wheel must be removed from service immediately and routed to an authorized Vinty Service Center for diagnostic inspection.
